ABSTRACT
Thepotentialforhelpingtomeetsomeoftheenergydemandsofconsumersin theUnitedStatesandelsewherebytappingoffshorealternativesourceslike geothermal,OTEC,wave,andtidalenergyismorethanevidentfromthebrief factualbackgroundconcerningtheserenewablesandsetforthintheopening pagesofthisstudy.Nosinglealternativesourcealonemaybecapableof providingaquickandpermanentfixtotheinevitabledepletionofhydrocarbon resources.Together,however,theircumulativeeffectcanmakeaserious contributiontowhatislikelytobeever-increasingdemandforsomethingto powerthemachinesofindustryanddrivetheenginesoftransportation.
