ABSTRACT

This is a method for some first practical steps to arrive at a picture of ‘What should be’, and to start getting an understanding of how people in your organization actually experience using information in their work. I use it both in consultancy assignments in organizations, and in giving courses on information auditing. It’s usually called mind-mapping, and goes back to methods developed by Tony Buzan and described in his Mind Map Book, 2000 (for a useful feature about recent applications in information work – some using Mind Manager software, others not – see Dale et al 2003).
