When processing a crime scene, care must be taken to ensure that potential computer evidence is secured so that its integrity is guaranteed.
Digital evidence is inherently unstable and difficult to protect and preserve. There are a number of factors that impact upon the evidential processing of computer data, many of which arise due to the intangible nature of electronically stored information.
