Gender Injustice and the European Union

This Chapter will examine Gender Injustice and the European Union (EU). It will initially look at the role of women in European society. It will then examine the European Community treaties from their inception, and will then look at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR) and the European Social Charter with their impact on equality. Finally, important EU Directives affecting women will be analyzed. The European Union has provided important contributions to the ending of gender discrimination in the coming together of people of different Nations. Equal pay and equal treatment are real commitments for the Member States.
