Angelo Beolco (Ruzante). I contend that Beolco's key innovation was to
word and gesture.' This advance would arguably stimulate later scripted
comedy through Beolco's example. Via the Venetian polyglot theatre trend
that he both initiated and influenced, his innovation would also provide
dell' arte that itself infiltrated amateur practice in the later sixteenth
century.
