ABSTRACT

Consideration of the strategic influences on information services over the next decade requires an analysis of the factors that will most likely create the need for change or impact upon people and organizations during this period. Such a consideration is necessary in order to determine the likely management scenario for the future to ensure the appropriate delivery of services and, ultimately, the information service's and its parent organization's survival. Whilst it is difficult to accurately predict the future, the likelihood of being able to forecast certain scenarios can be increased by analysing trends and strategic influences, and applying 'what if' scenarios to potential change factors.
