ABSTRACT

Since the founding of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) in 1933, the organization has been devoted to theory-driven, basic research and to communicating empirical findings to scientists through its scholarly publications. These activities have earned the society due respect as a major contributor to the knowledge base-the base on which all of today's developmentalists formed their careers. Now, after more than 6 decades of advancing science as a means to expand our understanding of human development, SRCD has formally welcomed into its major journal research that uses this knowledge on children's behalf. The position of action editor-and therefore the domain of articles spanning applied research, program evaluation, and policy studies-represents a milestone in the evolution of this respected publication.
