ABSTRACT

Some statements just aren't compelling news. These include: an airline needs to (a) react quickly to the changing marketplace, (b) provide value to its customers, or (c) promote continuous innovation to deal with the changing marketplace. It is also not compelling to hear that airlines need to quickly find ways to deal with the converging forces of liberalization, privatization, globalization, and increasingly dynamic and uncertain marketplace. However, what is news is that technology now enables an airline to develop management philosophies and business structures and systems that can respond efficiently and effectively to these and other changes. Most airlines are already sophisticated users of such technology as yield management, network management, and recovery systems. However, they can now capitalize on different areas of technology to improve their business structure and systems.
