ABSTRACT

Accident investigations point to flight crew error as the prime factor in approximately seventy percent of worldwide commercial jet fleet accidents. This is not new news. In fact, aviation has spent more than fifteen years studying, creating, and delivering Crew Resource Management (CRM) training. Why? Effective CRM skills lead to better use of resources on the flight deck, ergo safety. When the FAA mandates CRM not only for U.S. airline carriers, but also those carriers arriving in the U.S., there is significant support for the training and the belief that it works. But are we doing the right thing or doing things right?
