ABSTRACT

The success of a business depends on its ability to harness its human capital – in other words, how its people are organized to ensure that all tasks are managed in an efficient manner. The way an organization is structured is referred to as its organizational design. The organizational design should be conducive to the execution of overall corporate strategy. Risk management is a critical component of the overall card issuing organization. The risk management function may be a separate organizational department or may operate within the card operations department. The chapter reviews some of the elements of organizational design and how it can be made efficient and effective from the perspective of a card issuer. It focuses on systems and technology, this department manages all systems. The customer services department is an integral component of the issuer business. In addition to the primary departments above, there are other departments that provide support services.
