ABSTRACT
The key elements in interpreting the third principle are what is meant by the words
‘adequate’, ‘relevant’, and ‘excessive’ respectively in the context of personal data
processing. None of these terms are defined. Judgements must be made as to what is
adequate, relevant and not excessive in each case and this may vary according to the
circumstances.
