ABSTRACT

Theeffectofnationalcultureonpilottrainingandskillswasnota topicofinvestigationpriortotheadventofCrewResourceManagement(CRM),probablybecausethetrainingwasperceivedand deliveredasasetofstandardized,universaltechnicalskills.But CRMalertedtheindustrytothehuman-to-humaninteractionswhich areanintegralpartofanyteamperformanceand,insodoing,it alertedustothepsychologicalprocessesinherentingroupwork.As CRMwasintroducedandacceptedintheaviationindustryinthe USA,andnewsofitsrelevanceandsuccesstraveledoverseas,more andmorenon-USairlinesbecameinterestedinthisnewsafetyand efficiencyinitiative.CRMtrainingthatwasdevelopedintheUSA wassentoverseas,whereitreceived'mixedreviews'- theconcepts seemedtomakemoresenseinsomecountriesandairlinesthanin others.
