ABSTRACT

In the early seventh century the Croats arrived in what is today known as Croatia. They organized the state into two dukedoms which later united into a kingdom. Following the extinction of the Croatian ruling dynasty in 1091, after a 10year war, Croatia came under Hungarian supremacy, accepted the Hungarian king, but was maintained as a separate kingdom. The country was governed by Bans, certain officers with a wide spectrum of power, appointed by the Hungarian king.
