ABSTRACT

Foresight has increasingly become an important support for decision making on, and management of, technology. Foresight - and earlier ‘forecasting’ - is often performed by the aid of specific methodologies which aim to predict the future or sketch alternative futures. Delphi studies, scenario writing or regression analysis tries to better the capture the elements which are expected to become important in tomorrow’s world and the conditions under which they will become so. Following Van Lente (1993), foresight methods therewith help to create expectations on the future evolution of technologies and express a promise on their future potential.
