ABSTRACT

The general approach to evaluate display qualities is similar to the approach of flying qualities (FQ) testing and handling qualities (HQ) testing. Flying qualities are the intrinsic characteristics of the aircraft and are independent of the visual conditions or the display system instaHed. They are normally determined in optimum visual conditions. Handling qualities (HQ) are related to these characteristics when the aircraft is flown in specific flight tasks in specified visual conditions. Thus, there is a natural progression from FQ to HQ in good visual conditions to HQ in degraded conditions.
