ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on four possible categories of motivations which may trigger potential visitors to the Holy Land and die interviewees were asked to specify their personal motivations for their particular pilgrimage trip to Israel – the Holy Land. The four categories of motivations include: religious-spiritual motivations, social motivations, cultural-heritage motivations, and touristic motivations. Pilgrims are different from ordinary tourists in the manner in which they perceive their trip as a spiritual trip and as an inspirational experience. The first behavioral dimension of the Catholic pilgrims' sacred journey explores facets concerning preparedness to the trip. The chapter explores how the religious aspects of the trip to the Holy Land shaped the preparations, planning, and the grouping structuring of the trip. It deals with the rich spiritual religious world of the pilgrims who come to Israel at a time of political and security crisis.
