ABSTRACT

In the last decade much effort has been invested in exploring the role of textiles as an important ingredient in special-interest tourism in Austria. The aim of this chapter is to give an overview of the different tourism marketing strategies which use textile art to achieve their goals. The spectrum of initiators' actions is very broad in that it covers local and regional tourist organizations, local museums, federal museums, etc. The Austrian Tourist Information System endeavours to present a broad range of objectives for cultural and heritage tourism on the Web. Art in general and also textile art feature prominently in the information presented to the clientele reachable via the Web.
