ABSTRACT

This has been a long journey and we have covered many issues. Nevertheless, there is still one problem left that requires solution before we can close off. In Section 1.2 we stated that there are two types of explanation. Causalnomological explanations explain the occurrence of events in terms of causes and laws, and they are deductive in nature. In contrast, we claim that theoretic explanations are quite different in that they are non-deductive. Rather, they explain in terms of conceptual shift.
