ABSTRACT
As the preceding discussions hopefully have shown, the failure or malfunctioning of a barrier cannot in itself be the cause of an accident, although it may have an effect on the further development thereof. A barrier system exists to prevent something from happening but the harmful influences that it is expected to guard against are obviously different from the barrier as such.
