TheInternationalCivilAviationOrganisation(ICAO)forecastsagrowthinworld airtravelof5%perannumuntil2005.BasedonrecentexperienceinEurope,this appearslikelytobeaconservativeestimate.Tofacethischallengeavoidingany negativeimpactonthequalitymeasuresoftheairtransportationsystem,i.e.safety andefficiency,newAirTrafficManagement(ATM)concepts,proceduresand technologieshavetobedeveloped.Safetyandcapacityofaviationhavetobe increasedinparalleltokeepaviationthehighlyacceptedandeconomically attractivetransportationsystemitisrightnow.
