ABSTRACT

When, in September 1784, John Wesley ordained Coke, Vasey and Whatcoat, he presumably used The Form and Manner of Making and Ordaining of Superintendants, Elders and Deacons, which formed part of his abridgement of the Book of Common Prayer (1662). The Form and Manner ... was included among the Occasional Services of The Sunday Service of the Methodists in North America, (London, 1784), which Wesley sent to the colony along with the newly ordained men.
