ABSTRACT

Cognitive Task Analyses (CTAs) typically are conducted in stages to help manage and integrate the different analyses. Working in stages is essential for large analyses performed by researchers who are investigating an entire job or many cognitive components of a job. For example, the Integrated Task Analysis Method (ITAM) proposes three stages (Ryder and Redding, 1993). Information derived from one stage of analysis is analyzed at a deeper level during successive stages. That information is used to determine the specific data to be gathered and the analysis that should be conducted at a subsequent stage.
