ABSTRACT

Now that we have discussed applying the results of Cognitive Task Analysis (CTA) to training design, we turn our attention to using these analyses to build better systems. Many people view these as two sides of the same coin: human performance. A classic argument between trainers and system designers still flourishes. One side argues that, "If the interface was designed better, we wouldn't have to spend so much money, time, and effort training people to use it." The other side claims that, "Performance would be better if the users received better training on how to use the interface." There is probably some truth in both statements. One of our objectives is to help close the gap between the two camps.
