ABSTRACT

Airlines need airports to operate from, while airports need airlines for their future development. This is common sense, but it also implies close links between airlines and airport authorities.

Needless to say day-to-day cooperation is essential in the field of operations. This also applies to passenger handling, safety and security concerns, environmental issues, and recreation areas. Airports want efficient use of their infrastructure, while airlines want smooth passenger flows. Both, however, are seeking to meet passenger expectations at the same time as obtaining a profitable return on their investment. Consequently, for optimum operations, common basic views have to be worked out in the planning phases.
