ABSTRACT

So far, this book has been concerned with the organization of projects and project management systems. But one important system has yet to be covered. This is the ‘people system’, without the effective working of which all the other systems will fail. Management has been described as ‘obtaining results through people’ and the way in which the project manager deals with people, and how these people deal with one another, can make or break project performance. Effective organization, a structured methodology for project planning and control and good human relations are all necessary for good performance on projects but none of these is sufficient on its own. In addition to professional skills in organizing, planning and controlling a project, to be successful, a project manager must develop his or her skills in managing people.
