ABSTRACT

The importance and use of models in information science has increased with the explosion in the availability and use of electronic information. TAPin was an eLib project which developed, implemented and evaluated a model for use by librarians when supporting academics in a networked environment. It was based upon models developed by Barry (1995, 1997) and Finlay and Finlay (1996) which provided an understanding of the relationships between learning/knowledge’, ‘motivation/attitude’ and ‘time/use’ in the take-up and use of networked information systems by academics and librarians. The TAPin project is outlined in the Introduction to this book and further discussed in Chapters 12 and 13.
