ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of role-play questionnaires in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. This activity adds a new and highly productive dimension to role-play by asking students 'in character' to answer a structured questionnaire about the nature, beliefs and motivations of their personality. It aims to give a little more structure and analytical clarity to role-play sessions, and to help students empathize with their character more, and to provoke discussion about the role-play. Students, in pairs or groups of three, are allocated a role-play character. Each group is given a questionnaire to be completed in line with the mindset of their allocated character. The questionnaire needs to be designed so that it applies to all role-play characters and players equally.
