ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of editorials in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. This activity aims to investigate the issue of bias in key academic debates, and put students into situations where they have to explain and justify certain set arguments. Students are split into pairs; they are given an issue and a newspaper to write for. Ask students to write newspaper editorials on important social, political, economic or historical controversies. The activity makes students think about the key academic issues of bias and perspective. It forces students to confront controversies and 'argue a line'. Students will become aware of key arguments and the importance and influence of tone and bias.
