ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of stock tactics in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. This activity is designed to shake up a group session that has proven to be particularly low key and predictable. It aims to provoke and stimulate students by means of a pre-planned staff role-play, and to make students aware of one particularly important viewpoint, and to make this view accessible and familiar. The tutor walks into the classroom, speech in hand, orating from the moment he or she enters in a heavily dramatic fashion. He or she continues to talk, ignoring all the usual formalities associated with the beginning of a class. A tutor could take on a particularly extreme, controversial or provocative position throughout a full-class session.
