ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of sculpting in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. Get a group of students to act out and freeze a famous scene from history, from a novel, or from contemporary politics. Then ask other students to throw questions at the people involved in the sculpture. The activity aims to re-enact, and thus access, a key event or scene, and to enable those involved to acquire empathy with the situation, and to involve all students - either in the sculpture or in asking questions of the actors. Students will empathize with, and will act themselves into, key roles, thereby gaining an understanding of the main issues involved 'from the inside'.
