ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of collage in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. The activity aims to foster the notion that ideas are accessible and that abstract concepts can be illustrated and illuminated with 'real-life' and 'everyday' images. It also aims to catalyse discussion during and after the creation of the collage. Small subgroups are given one idea to focus on plus a selection of old newspapers and glossy magazines with which to create a collage. Pictures, images, headlines or just words can be culled to produce a collage on the set theme. Ideas can also be 'active', and card games, Post-it walls and all manner of other activities can be employed to bring ideas 'alive' and make them more interesting and enjoyable.
