ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of paragraphs in a nutshell, aim of the activity, need of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. Split an important and perhaps fairly long passage into paragraphs, to make the text more manageable, and ask pairs of students to provide a comprehensive, clear interpretation of each paragraph. The activity aims to involve all the students in the decoding and analysis of a key text. It also aims to show that all parts of a text - even the most unassuming - have key meanings and can all help in acquiring an understanding of the passage as a whole. Students are paired up and the text is divided into paragraphs. Students might be given a difficult paragraph to analyse and might have to delve into other paragraphs to find out important contextual information.
