ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to put students into the mindset of key individuals or organizations and to foster students' awareness of the conditioning factors that affect the writing of key documents. The tutor outlines the key background information - in particular, the authorship and context of the passage. The following statements are the efforts of the different student groups: 'journalists have a responsibility to carry out their duties with due regard for the personal feelings of individuals involved in the news’; and 'journalists should try to maintain high moral standards in all their dealings with the general public’. Students will gain a key insight into the process of drafting key texts and will also be encouraged to empathize, imagine and speculate in an intelligent manner.
