ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to vary the standard approach - and complement verbal tactics with nonverbal tactics and to encourage students to think about society in new, fresh and stimulating diagrammatic ways. Students will consider, think through and analyse the mechanics of society and will be able to engage in focused discussion on the different conceptualizations of society. If the complexities of society can be represented in diagrammatic form so can a multitude of other related topics - for example, the workings of government, the intricacies of the parliamentary process, multi-party political systems, international diplomatic relationships. With a little imagination, any situation or process can be diagrammatized, and this challenge to students will automatically provoke good, healthy discussion.
