ABSTRACT

Vary the usual approach to statistics by 'blanking out' the categories on one axis in a table (but leaving the axis title intact). Ask students, on the evidence of the figures in the table and on the basis of their general knowledge of the subject, to make informed predictions about the axis categories which have been erased. In essence this is a 'recognition test': students are challenged to identify the axis categories on the evidence of the figures in the tables.
