ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the accept and reject technique in a nutshell, aim of the technique, need of the technique, time required for the technique, how the technique works and the advantages of the technique. This technique emphasizes the importance of statistical evidence and asks students to weigh up which pieces of evidence they can use and which they would like to dispose of. The technique aims to encourage students to think about the meaning and quality of numerical evidence and to provoke discussion about the significance and implications of certain facts and figures. The technique encourages students to prioritize and consider statistical evidence itself, and how such evidence relates to, and substantiates, academic arguments. Students will have to discuss and formulate a distinct argument on the basis of several significant statistics.
