ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the activity of blank-out in a nutshell, aim of the activity, time required for the activity, how the activity works and the advantages of the activity. This strategy is designed to test students' knowledge and their general understanding of a numbers-oriented topic. The tutor's task is to 'blank out' some key figures in a table of statistics - or even blank out all the statistics in a table. The strategy aims to make the study of statistics more enjoyable and more 'fun' and to increase students' confidence by getting them to predict, in an informed manner, the blanked-out figures. Students will be encouraged to think for themselves and develop authoritative predictions based on what they already know.
