ABSTRACT
Plato’s mistaken conception of government in politics is linked to his mistaken conception of guidance in education. Just as the wise and good politician relies on loyalty, so the educator relies on imitation. The idea in education is that we have a principle by which motives can be tested and adjusted so that they work together for the good of the whole soul – a general satisfaction which is the satisfaction of all; a sort of moral faculty.
