ABSTRACT

On 20 December 2013, one of London’s most famous West End theatres had to be evacuated mid-show. BBC news cameras were quick to rush to the scene for a story. The first person to be interviewed, a man covered head to toe in dust, explained he had heard a “strange crackling noise” coming from the ceiling, from which chunks of plaster then began to break off; seemingly without cause, large sections of the ceiling proceeded to collapse. As the first witness told the BBC journalist: “at first I thought it was just part of the show.”
