ABSTRACT

A proscenium stage, with a skein hung completely across its downstage edge. When lit from behind, the skein is transparent; when lit from the front, it is opaque. A large rope, anchored in the flies at both ends, stretches across center stage. There is also a simple arrangement of stage furniture—a table, several chairs, several blocks—set between the rope and the skein. Upstage there is a scaffold with three platforms at various heights: one upstage left, one upstage center, one upstage right. These platforms are continuously populated by one performer each throughout the show, but the specific performers populating them change throughout.
