ABSTRACT

Introduction Despite the great success of the euro during its first decade of existence, several governments in the Eurozone faced a major crisis in 2010 and 2011 that put the euro project in question and the euro area on its knees before the world. The Eurozone countries must take responsibility and strengthen efforts to coordinate and reform the economic, monetary and social policies needed to maintain the positive performance of the project. Countries must adopt and carry out these reforms in order to avoid a painful result.
