ABSTRACT

An initial pool of 15 statements for each of the three areas will be brain stormed by three graduate students who have been active in the charter school movement. These statements will be reviewed by two professors who have experience in attitude-scale development and are knowledgeable of this movement. The pool of items will also be pilot-tested with a sample of five parents who will not be participants in the main study. Each parent will be asked to read each statement aloud and describe his or her reasons for selecting a choice from 5 to 1. This "think-aloud" technique will help to identify statements that parents find to be vague, ambiguous, or difficult to comprehend.
