ABSTRACT
An abstract is a summary that provides an overview of the proposal. When there are many competing proposals (such as for research funding), preparing a good abstract is exceedingly important because some reviewers may make a first pass and eliminate certain proposals based on the abstract alone. For instance, if the funding agency is concentrating on inner-city adolescents and your abstract fails to mention this group, it may not get further consideration.
