ABSTRACT

It is important to distinguish between notation software used in various ways for reading stave notation and translating notation into Braille music; and audio software which allows for the production or editing of sound itself. Assuming notation is deemed important in the chosen musical process, fitting its style and traditions, it is an additional obstruction placed between a partially sighted person's musical vision, or his or her creative genius, and the capacity to realize it as a performance. Digital technology was to drive the production of music in the years that followed. After completing an MA degree in philosophy and modern languages at New College, Oxford University, Peter Bosher decided to pursue his love of music by studying on one of the United Kingdom's most prestigious courses in sound engineering and recording, the Tonnmeister course at Surrey University. Joe Buck, from the United States, felt there was little interest in what he was doing from the wider music industry.
