ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 discusses the methods applied in developing sports-related integration programmes. It focuses on the ways in which the political thinking about sports and integration issues and the methodological techniques applied to solve these issues assume the shape of funding schemes, top-down programme designs and limited programme evaluation in the shape of performance measurements. The chapter suggests various ways in which the methodological techniques may be broadened, such as participatory programme designs and multi-sited fieldwork that transcends tendencies towards methodological nationalism. The chapter ends with a discussion of how to understand the ‘evidence’ of sports-related integration programmes.
