ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 revisits the expected results of sports-related integration programmes. It describes the widespread agreement among national politicians and sports governing bodies that social capital is the outcome of participation in sports clubs. The chapter revisits the understanding that social bonding capital is the outcome of sports in ethnic minority clubs, while social bridging capital is developed in ethnically mixed sports clubs. Finally, the chapter calls for more research into the complexity of the social relations and attitudes that play out in various sports settings.
