ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the practice of police and public safety psychology as applied to intelligence. It provides a brief overview of intelligence as applied in the real field of life. The chapter reviews the relationship that exists between intelligence as an art and science and how it connects to psychology as a science applied creatively, analytically, and practically. Intelligence seeks to gain information that lends an understanding of what the individual criminal, organized criminal group, or terrorist cult, or cult leader is planning on doing to harm innocent individuals, groups, religious or cultural societies. As one of the leading experts in intelligence analysis, Chief Barr has combined mental and emotional intelligence as a psychologically minded and professional law enforcement officer. As students of psychology, the results of intelligence work and analysis cannot be underestimated as psychology and in particular police psychology as a science progresses.
