Historical context in police training, as in all fields of endeavor, are crucial to understanding how and why certain techniques work and others do not, how to modify and revise one's approach to identifying problems, and what possible solutions are most feasible. cop docs who were licensed clinicians at the doctoral level uniquely influenced the field of police training, from the intervention and screening of applicants to choosing members for specialized duties and responsibilities. Lt. Latorre distills his decades of police training, education, and wisdom as a certified police instructor and commanding officer. Professor Latorre has integrated many areas of police psychology. The ideal of integrating areas of police science, law, and police psychology was synergized into a critical area of specialty within the actual professional work of police officers. The chapter summarizes a combined century of training experience by two tenured, highly educated and trained police instructors, covering two coasts of the United States.
