ABSTRACT

This chapter presents Chris Purcell's story; it is a barren bones story. Chris was born on December 19, 1986, in Keflavik, Iceland. His father, Mike Purcell, and his mother, Helene Purcell, were in the Navy. Six security officers arrived at Purcell's apartment at Building 731 on Fitch Avenue sometime before 9:47 p.m. According to Brunswick police, who began the investigation prior to its being taken over by NCIS, Purcell had been detained at his residence by base security. Purcell is noted to be drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. There was medium risk. Health promotion services were recommended: tobacco cessation and nutrition counseling. Purcell had received a GAF of 55–60, which is consistent with serious impairment. However, a score of ten is warranted in cases of persistent probability of severely hurting self; Chris killed himself. Thus, it is easy to discern that Chris suffered so.
