ABSTRACT

This topic describes some of the specific techniques that qualitative researchers use to establish the dependability and trustworthiness of their data.1

One technique is to use multiple sources for obtaining data on the research topic. The technical name for this is data triangulation. For instance, for a qualitative study of age discrimination in an employment setting, a researcher might interview employees, their supervisors, and the responsible personnel officers. To the extent that the various sources provide similar information, the data can be said to be corroborated through data triangulation.
